Dandelion Leaf

In an effort to heal my body, I have come across dandelion. Since becoming "crunchy" a few years back, I knew I liked dandelions. Every time my husband tries to spray the yard, I yell at him. We like dandelions! The bees need them! It's good for our health! But despite my protests, I wasn't actually using anything dandelion related.

Until now! I like to have one cup of dandelion tea per day (about 5-10 ml of leaves in hot water). The taste is very mild; not what you would expect of dandelion!

Dandelion leaf has so many benefits! It is full of vitamins, like A, B6, and C, and minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, and potassium. It is a digestive aid and a natural anti-inflammatory. Because of it's anti-inflammatory properties, it can actually help relieve joint pain. There are even studies showing that it can reduce menstrual cramping!

Dandelion leaf can help boost liver health by lowering oxidative stress. When we take a dried sample of blood for analysis, we can see oxidative stress, represented by the white holes. The anti-oxidants in dandelion root are exactly what our body needs to combat oxidative stress and to boost immune health. The list of benefits go on and on! Of course, like anything that seems too good to be true, there are some risks, like stomach upset and allergic reactions, but the good absolutely outweighs the bad.

I purchased my tea from Homegrown Foods in Stony Plain, Alberta. The brand I like is Chickadee Farm Organic Herbs from Flatbush, Alberta.
