There is no denying that coconut is a superfood, but did you know that the oil can actually promote dental health?! It reduces the harmful bacteria found in the mouth, including ones that can cause cavities and plaque buildup. Due to this breakdown of bad bacteria, breath stays fresher. It can even help whiten the teeth as it removes stains over time.
When I was going through chemotherapy, coconut oil was a saving grace! Some of the side effects are mouth sores and thrush and there is not much you can do to make it feel better. Out of desperation, I took a spoonful of coconut oil and swished it around for at least 20 minutes. The relief I had from this was amazing!
Yesterday, I was reminded again about how powerful a tool oil pulling is. After a two month battle with a faulty bridge, and several dentist visits later, I was fed up with the agony that I was in! I thought, well it worked for mouth pain once before, maybe it will work again. I swished the oil for maybe five minutes before my dentist appointment, and to my excitement, most of the mouth pain was gone! I had the new bridge installed after this, but once the freezing wore off, the agony was back. I immediately pulled out the coconut oil for round two, and AGAIN, majority of the pain had subsided.
Coconut oil is antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial, meaning it goes to work to fight against these things! All you need to do is take a spoonful of it, put it in your mouth, and swish! Move it around from side to side, through your teeth and over your tongue. Do not swallow, as you want to remove the toxins, not ingest them. The timeframe is your preference. Do what feels right for you.
When purchasing, look for virgin, cold pressed, organic and unrefined oil. This will be the best and healthiest choice!
